A.    Context
This is daily conversation between Deny and Azmy on Wednesday 6th 2012 in west auditorium Mohammad Djazman at 13.00 when atmosphere is quite. They are talking about Hobby. The speaker’s condition is hungry but still happy.

B.     Data of Conversation

1.      Deny   : Hi Azmy…why do you collect many STAMPS?

2.      Azmy  : Ohh… Hi Deny… I am collecting the stamps for my collection.

3.      Deny   : What do you MEAN?

4.       Azmy : Yes, actually my hobby is collecting stamps.

5.      Deny   : Why do you like collecting STAMPS?

6.      Azmy  : Because I like to see the unique pictures of the stamps. How          about YOU, What is your HOBBY?

7.      Deny   : Hmm::: I think(0,3) I don’t have hobby. Should we have a             HOBBY?

8.      Azmy  : Not really...But in our lives we must have something we like most which is                       called HOBBY.

9.      Deny   : So, hobby is a pleasure. Then, I think I have a hobby now.

10.  Azmy  : Of course, so what is your Hobby?

11.  Deny   : Umm:::I like to read comics, especially detective Conan.

12.  Azmy  : That is your HOBBY, Reading comic.

13.  Deny   : Ohh…..I see, thank you.

14.  Azmy  : you’re welcome, but, do you have all of detective Conan’s            collection?

15.  Deny   : Yes, I do. I even (0,3) go to the black market because the original comics have                 not yet             been published. How about you’re     COLLECTION?

16.  Azmy    : So far I have collected stamps from some countries but I still                   should find other stamps.

17.  Deny    : Do you need much money for your HOBBY?

18.  Azmy   : Yes of course I need much money because I order the stamps so               it costs little bit expensive.

19.  Deny    : WOW… your hobby is expensive

20.  Azmy   : Yeah…but I like to do it.

21.  Deny   : okay… Good luck with your hobby azmy.

22.  Azmy  : Thank you deny J


C.    Conversation Analysis

1.      The characters of the speakers
      From our conversation it can be inferred that Deny and Azmy are attentive persons each other. Our conversation was adequate fluent but there are certain parts hesitate in answering. Azmy is also a type of tolerant person (In the conversation number 7 and number 15),because she is patient to wait (three second) for the intended speaker (Deny). Deny having characters that are too enthusiastic in talk (in the conversation number 1, 3, 5, 7, 15, 17 and 19) and Azmy has a relaxed but firm character (in the conversation number 6, 8, 12, 14, 16, and 18)

2.      The aspects marked in the conversation
a.      Stressing tone
            The stressing tones of this conversation are “STAMPS”, “MEAN”, “HOBBY”, “COLLECTION”, and “WOW”. This stressing tone aims to emphasize utterance in important topics

b.      Pauses
            The pauses of this conversation are “I think (0,3)” in number 7, the speaker (Deny) needs two seconds to think before uttering “I think I don’t have hobby”. And “I even (0,3)” in number 15, the speaker (Deny) needs two seconds to think before uttering “I even go to the black market”. It is can be inferred that deny is a type of passive person because she need any time (0,3) to think before choice her utterance to answer the question.

c.       Backchannel
            Backchannels are vocal indications of attention. In our conversation the backchannels there are
·         Ohh (in number 2), it is to responds the greetings from Deny.
·         Hmm (in number 7), it is showing hesitation before choice her utterance to answer the question.
·         Umm (in number 11), it is showing hesitation when she will continue her utterances
·         Ohh (in number 13), ) in beginning utterance, it is not showing hesitation but it does show a sense of pride that she apparently had a hobby
·         Wow (in number 19), ) it is expression of surprise when she hear that Azmy’s hobby need a lot of money
·         Yeah (number 20) it is to responds the utterances of Deny.

d.      High considerateness style
            The participation of each speakers include high considerateness style because our conversation non-interrupting, non-imposing way of taking part in conversation. The speakers of this conversation are tolerant each other.

e.       Adjacency pairs
            Adjacency pairs are a sequence of two utterances by different speakers in conversation. The second speaker is a response to the first speaker.

f.       Lengthening
This is provided from utterances in conversation number 7 (Hmm:::)  and number 11 (umm:::)

      The conversation consists of question and answer. The structural can be explained as follows:

·         In every conversation there are closing as a sign to end the conversation. In our conversation the closing are “good luck” and “thank you”. Closing in conversation is very important because it is show that the speakers have found the clarity of the conversation.

Writing Summary by Fitri Nurwiyanti
1)      An article in Campus magazine entitled “Publics Participation For Education” by Miftakhul Khoiri presents the first school Taman Siswa built by Ki Hajar Dewantara.
In the sentence 1 “an article” replace of “Publics Participation For Education” it is called substitution of noun. In sentence 1 before “present” it should be “that” to emphasize of who is the present of the first school Taman Siswa it is called ellipsis. In sentence 1 “taman siswa” refers to Ki Hajar Dewantara called synonymy. Repetition of “by” (sentence 1). “first” is called temporal conjunction to show the events in the text (sentence 1).

2)      Education paradigm is growing in Indonesia to fulfill the sprit of education these days.
In sentence 2 “education paradigm” replace “Indonesia” called substitution of noun. In sentence 2 “these” as replacement of the day where education paradigm is growing called comparative reference.
3)      Citizens should get competent education.
In sentence 3 “component education” as clausal ellipsis that presents the component education what.
4)      Education is responsibility by government and the side of private sector individual and group.
Here “and” signals the presentation of additional information called additive conjunction (sentence 4).
5)      Because of limited cost, the government opens the opportunity for public to participate and develop business education such as; building opening schools, courses, or skill education with facilities more complete and better than government schools.
In this type “because of” of conjunction, the relationship is one of cause and consequence and it can be called hypotactic conjunction (sentence 5). Repetition of “education”, “open”, “school”, “government” (sentence 5).  Here “and” signals the presentation of additional information called additive conjunction (sentence 5). Collocation of “school”, “course”, “education” (sentence 5).
6)      Supported by complete and good facilities make this school rather expensive because it also promises the good management on its education.
“supported (0)” is meant to what the supported is pointed (sentence 6). The pointed of business education, it is called demonstrative reverence (sentence 6). “this” change of the business education in sentence 5 which complete and good facilities (sentence 6). “it” replace by “complete and good facilities” called substitution of noun (sentence 6). In sentence 6 “its” changes of develop business education in sentence 5 called substitution of verb. Repetition of “good” (sentence 6). In this type “because” of conjunction, the relationship is one of cause and consequence and it can be called hypotactic conjunction (sentence 6).
7)      Indonesia has pesantren as education system (Islamic boarding house models).
The synonymy “pesantren” to “education system” (sentence 7)
8)      It is classified into two models: First Traditional, it does not collect the payment from the students and students can stay and study freely.

9)      They study about Islamic science for the sake of individual and public.
 Here “and” signals the presentation of additional information called additive conjunction (sentence 9). “they” refers to “pesantren”, it is anaphoric reference which emphasize to the backward (sentence 9).
10)  The traditional pesantren still be one choice by our society under class social.
“one choice” replace by “the traditional pesantren” in sentence 7 called substitution of noun (sentence 10).
11)  Second, Modern pesantren collects the payment of the students because it gives more ability and knowledge for students.

Here “and” signals the presentation of additional information called additive conjunction (sentence 12). “they” refers to “pesantren”, it is anaphoric reference which emphasize to the backward (sentence 12).


13)  They are prepared to face the era that always changes.
“that” explain the meant before is the purpose of preparing, it can called be hypotactic conjunction (sentence 13). “they” refers to “biology, mathematics, physics etc”, it is anaphoric reference which emphasize to the backward (sentence 13).

14)  Without being realized, the friction could happen from motivation of organizer and management of existing education.
“that” explain the meant before is the purpose of preparing, it can called be hypotactic conjunction (sentence 14). “without(0)” emphasize to the change of the era, it is called ellipsis (sentence 14). 17)  Government and private sector individually and group have big homework to repair their education inspect that aims on making organization of education.
Here “and” signals the presentation of additional information called additive conjunction (sentence 17).  “that” explain the meant before is the purpose of preparing, it can called be hypotactic conjunction (sentence 17).  “their”the poor people, it is both of anaphoric and cataphoric reference, poor and rich man.
18)  I agree with the writer who says that about publics participation for education is important.
